575: Instruction Design Principles

Since librarians also serve as educators to an extent, this course prepared students for designing and executing the Instructional Process.  Students were required to develop an instructional process based on these principles and understand the theories and methods in creating new instructional methods.  For the course assignments, I worked to develop an instructional design for navigating the various types of publishing and deciding what was best for an individual.

7A. The necessity of continuing professional development of practitioners in libraries and other information agencies.
7B. The role of the library in the lifelong learning of patrons, including an understanding of lifelong learning in the provision of quality service and the use of lifelong learning in the promotion of library services.
7C. Learning theories, instructional methods, and achievement measures; and their application in libraries and other information agencies.
7D. The principles related to the teaching and learning of concepts, processes and skills used in seeking, evaluating, and using recorded knowledge and information.

Statement of Intent– The first assignment was to declare the topic that would be the focus of the instructional design for development into a course.
Analysis of Needs and Goals
– This assignment defined the goals of the instruction and understanding the nature of the topic being taught to individuals.
Task Analysis This paper was to identify and explain all of the tasks that were needed for a complete instruction on the topic.
Analysis of Learners and Contexts
– This assignment helped the instructor to define both the learners being instructed and the context of the instruction (site, performance, constraints, etc.)
Performance Objectives-The objectives were clearly marked out for each learner in each of the sessions presented by the instructor.
Performance Measurement– This section required students to develop the examinations and rubrics for examining the learner’s performance in retaining the instruction.
Instructional Strategy– This assignment was to explain how each of the lessons will inform students using the instructional principles provided by the course.
Instructional Materials– This assignment contains all of the needed materials (scripts for classes, tests, materials, etc) for the instructional course.
Formative Evaluation-This assignment was to put the instruction into practice and test in One-To-One sessions and small group sessions, testing the materials, tests and other elements of the instruction.  Material was rated for clarity, effectiveness and other levels to determine if the materials were successful or not.
Final Types of Publishing Document– For the Final Submission for this class, all of the assignments were put into a single document for the professor to read.
